Toby Waterson
Founding PrincipalToby Waterson is Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh’s Founding Principal. He read International Politics and Geography at University of Wales Aberystwyth and holds a PGCE from that same institution. He subsequently gained a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Buckingham. With over twenty-five years teaching and leading in schools, in a range of educational settings, from his native UK to South Korea and Brazil, he has broad and relevant experience. He was a founding member of North London Collegiate School Jeju, South Korea, now one of East Asia’s most impressive schools which won the accolade of the ‘British International School of the Year’ in 2021 (Independent Schools of the Year Award). He is excited to be leading an equally ambitious school here in Cambodia to ensure the quality of provision is the best in the country. Toby believes with conviction in the value and advantages that a genuinely holistic education brings young people and is already witnessing how Phnom Penh is fertile ground for Shrewsbury School’s unique and powerful educational ethos. He is married with three young children and enjoys being outdoors whenever he has the opportunity!

Alina Manda
Head of PrimaryAlina Manda is a British-qualified national leader of education with over 18 years of experience in 4 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa, working with several curricula, including the British National Curriculum, Cambridge, and International Primary Curriculum. She holds the British Qualified Teacher Status, the National Qualification for Senior Leadership from UCL Institute of Education, and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Management.
Throughout her teaching career, Alina has taught across all primary phases and held different leadership positions, from Classteacher, Subject Leader, Head of Department, Assistant Headteacher in London schools, to Head of an international primary school in Malaysia, Founder of a Coding online club in Romania, and most recently as a Founding Head of an international primary school in Nigeria.
Alina is an Associate Member of The British Computer Society, The Chartered Institute for IT and has worked as a consultant for the British local government, training over 100 teachers and supporting 32 schools; she has collaborated with ICT advisors to Ministries from Japan, South Korea, Sweden, and The Netherlands; and has co-authored papers with Japanese scholars on computing education in primary schools.
Her teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that education must improve lives by helping children develop self-awareness, a sound moral compass, and the necessary knowledge and skills to take on future challenges and succeed in the 21st century.
Alina is enjoying her return to Southeast Asia and immersing herself in Cambodian culture while leading the new Shrewsbury Primary School in Phnom Penh.

James Wilson
Year 5 / 6 TeacherOriginally from the UK, James holds a BA in History from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University. He has taught in London, China, and the Dominican Republic. With over six years of international teaching experience and more than three years in London classrooms, James brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and a calm, pastoral approach to the classroom.
He has led subjects including History, Geography, and ICT, and is passionate about building strong relationships and fostering curiosity in young learners, empowering them with critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy for the 21st century. Coming from a strong edtech background, James worked in a Google-affiliated school and was part of the team awarded Edufuturist School of the Year for innovation in edtech. Outside the classroom, he enjoys learning languages, scuba diving, and cycling. He is thrilled to be joining the warm and welcoming community at Shrewsbury Phnom Penh.

Richard McDermott
Year 3 / 4 TeacherRichard McDermott received his Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Design at Edgehill University in the UK. He also gained the National Professional Qualification for Headteachers in 2021. He has taught across the whole primary range during his 27 year career and held leadership positions including many curriculum subjects and also a headship in Saudi Arabia. Richard has served as a Council of International School’s (CIS) visitor and overseen successful CIS and British Schools Overseas (BSO) qualifications at the schools he has worked in. Since the first ten years teaching in the UK, Richard has always remained closely connected to the classroom and classroom practice. Leadership has involved a close focus on teaching, learning and curriculum. He creates warm and welcoming classroom environments where children excel both academically and socially. Outside of the classroom, Richard is as passionate about writing as he is about following his favourite sports team. He has taught students from around the world, has always wanted to work in South East Asia and therefore he is excited to join the growing school of Shrewsbury Phnom Penh.

Heather Sampson
Year 3/4 TeacherHeather graduated with a Mathematics Degree from the University of Bath in the UK in 2014, and, after a few years working in sales and project management, decided to pursue her love of learning and working with children to become a primary school teacher. Leaving the University of Winchester in the UK in 2018 with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Primary Education, she then worked in Bristol, England. Having taught both upper and lower Key Stage 2, Heather has a broad understanding and knowledge of the content and expectations of the national curriculum for England. During her teaching career, Heather has led on both science and sustainability (two of her passions) along with providing extra support and interventions for mathematics. Creating curious, confident and creative learners is at the heart of her educational philosophy. Teaching at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh is Heather’s first foray into teaching internationally and she loves living in and experiencing the Kingdom of Wonder!

Nicola Edwards
Year 1/2 TeacherNicola studied her Bachelor of Arts in Education Studies at Sheffield Hallam University and holds a Primary PostGraduate Certificate in Education and a Trinity Diploma in TESOL from the same institution. She went on to gain a Masters in Education from the University of Sheffield. For her MA dissertation, she researched the approaches teachers use when teaching Key Stage 1 students to read, as she is an advocate of promoting a love of reading to all her students and wanted to delve into how best to support children with learning to read. She has created a variety of phonics training for teachers as she believes phonics has a positive impact on a child’s reading and writing development. Nicola has worked in education for over ten years and joins us from an outstanding British International School in Kuwait. She is a committed and dedicated educator who strives to ensure all students fulfil their potential, feel acknowledged and listened to and become global citizens. She is enjoying applying her wide experience and knowledge at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh.

Julie Beasley
Reception TeacherOriginally from the UK, Julie holds a B’Ed in Early Childhood. She has taught in Lincolnshire, UK, Jordan, Thailand, China, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. With over 14 years of teaching in the UK and 14 years internationally Julie brings a wealth of knowledge about the Early Years Foundation Stage including the International Early Years Curriculum, Reggio Emilio, EtonHouse Inquire, Think, Learn curriculum and Early Childhood development. She has joined Shrewsbury Phnom Penh from the British School Riyadh.
She believes that all children deserve the best possible start to their educational journey. She is committed to creating a nurturing, consistent, and adaptable environment where strong relationships between children, parents, and staff are central to each child’s success. Julie delivers the EYFS curriculum through in-the-moment planning, following children’s interests and recognising ‘teachable moments’ to move learning forward. With a calm, stimulating, and well-organised learning environment, indoors and outdoors, she supports curiosity, independence, and progress. Outside of the classroom Julie enjoys reading, sewing and becoming involved in voluntary organisations within the community.

Eunkyung Oh
Nursery TeacherOriginally from Seoul, South Korea, Eun has been living and teaching internationally since 2015. She holds a BA in French Language and Literature from Ewha Womans University in Seoul and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Early Years from the University of Sunderland, UK. She has also completed a master-level programme in literary translation in Korea and studied creative writing at the British Centre for Literary Translation at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK. With a deep passion for early childhood education and literature, Eun began her teaching journey in Hamburg, Germany, and most recently taught in Phnom Penh at Northbridge International School Cambodia. She is dedicated to creating child-led, play-based learning environments where every child feels safe, valued and inspired. She is especially committed to supporting multilingual learners and nurturing global citizenship through inclusive, creative experiences. Outside the classroom, Eun is also an accomplished literary translator, with work published in international journals including Harper’s Magazine in the US. With her love for language and literature, she aspires to nurture young learners’ imagination, expression, and empathy through stories and meaningful engagement with the world of books.

Dean Bryant
Physical Education and Swimming TeacherDean is a highly experienced physical education teacher with a diverse teaching career spanning various locations and age groups. He holds a Bachelor’s of Education (Honours) degree in Physical Education from the West Sussex Institute of Higher Education (now the University of Chichester) in the UK. His journey began in a multicultural secondary school in the East End of London, where he learned to appreciate and respect different cultures through the power of sports. Five years later, he took on the role of Head of PE at an outstanding middle school in Dorset, UK, refining his leadership skills. Dean’s career has also involved teaching abroad in Borneo and China, where he introduced successful programmes and pathways for students to develop their physical, social and cognitive skills. With a deep understanding of the British early years and primary curriculum, Dean enjoys contributing to the holistic education of our students through PE and swimming lessons. As for all our teachers, Dean brings a wealth of expertise and passion to the role and the school.

Rachel Khoo
Music TeacherRachel discovered her love in playing piano at an early age and enrolled under Raymond Tan at age six and this led to earning her Diploma in Music Performance in Trinity Licentiate (LTCL) later gaining a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Music Performance and Pedagogy at University Science Malaysia and her Masters in Music Education from Kingston University London. She has now over fourteen years of working experiential wealth behind her; teaching, arranging music, conducting orchestras and establishing music clubs to enable students to engage, explore and develop their skills. Rachel believes music is an important element in a student’s life as it is an incredible vehicle for self expression. Her involvement in this industry demonstrates her commitment to her profession and does not stop here. In between semester breaks, she attends music workshops and events to network with other educators.

Siling Lin
Mandarin TeacherSiling is an experienced educator with a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Assumption University and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Management and Systems from Tianjin Foreign Studies University. She holds a Certificate for International Chinese Language Teachers from the Confucius Institute Headquarters. With over eleven years of experience in language education, Siling has a strong background in teaching at international schools in Thailand. She has now brought her rich expertise to Cambodia. Passionate about education, Siling continues to inspire students by integrating a rich understanding of Mandarin language and culture into her teaching practices.

Chanteth Nget
Khmer TeacherChantheth attended the Royal University of Phnom Penh and received a Bachelor of Khmer Language and gained experience teaching Khmer literature following her degree. After a year working as a teaching assistant at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh and learning the ethos and practical skills commonly employed here, she has taken on the responsibilities of teacher of Khmer language. Chantheth is passionate about the Khmer language and culture and brings this alive in the classroom.

Noreen Soliva
SEN TeacherNoreen graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, majoring in Special Education and minoring in Pre-school from the University of San Agustin in The Philippines. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling as she believes that this will enable her to better understand and support young children with special needs. Noreen has been in the field of teaching for almost eight years now. At the heart of Noreen’s teaching philosophy is the belief that children need to feel loved and safe before they are ready to learn. Noreen has been enjoying her life in Cambodia for the past five years and she spends her spare time creating educational and hands-on learning toys and games through DIY arts and crafts.

Sreyroth Leang
Teaching AssistantSreyroth graduated from Kampong Speu High School and then studied English & Hospitality at DTS Yvam Battembang. Following this training course she worked in education in Phnom Penh both at a kindergarten and then in a school, where she specialised in Year 1. She is happy to be at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh and loves working with the children here who she finds very open to the Early Years ethos. Sreyroth enjoys riding her bicycle and reading in her downtime.

Sreypich Nguon
Teaching AssistantSreypich graduated from Prek Leap High School and is currently in her fourth year of TESOL studies at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia. Also she holds Diploma of Academic English awarded by Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia at the Standard Testing and Global Education Institute. With almost four years of teaching experience across two schools, she has developed strong skills in classroom management and student engagement. Working with the children here at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh, she aims to support, motivate, and inspire our students throughout their learning journey. Sreypich is committed to continuous learning and staying updated on the latest trends in education to further enhance the support she provides to our students.

Somaleng Ra
Lead Teaching AssistantSomaleng achieved a Local Secondary Education Diploma. With 2 years as a Teacher under her belt, Somaleng is more than familiar with the education system. At Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh, she enhances the learning experience of students by providing support to Class Teachers when and wherever needed. In her free time, Somaleng likes learning new things and often picks up new skills to expand her capabilities.

Sreyvorn Sok
Teaching AssistantSreyvorn holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, majoring in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Norton University. She has over 10 years of teaching experience in both local and international schools in Phnom Penh.
Her passion lies in working with children, creating engaging and supportive learning environments.

Kachara Sokunsitha
Teaching AssistantKachara graduated from Hun Sen High School and subsequently obtained an Associate Degree from the University of Human Resources.She also holds a Bachelor Arts in English. In addition, she successfully completed a pedagogy Training Program at the National Institute of Education. Kachara has seven years of professional experience in the field of education and is very pleased to be putting that valuable experience to good use as part of the Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh Early Years team.

Ava Fu
Admissions ManagerAva graduated from Hainan University with a degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Her degree was put to good use when Ava was dispatched by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, under the Ministry of Education of China, to teach Chinese on a voluntary basis in schools in Cambodia. She then moved into the private sector where she also had responsibility for overseeing Chinese parent relations. In 2014 Ava joined the LG Cosmetics team in Cambodia where she successfully worked as the marketing director for six years. Now Ava is combining her passion for education, her experience as a mother of two boys with her skills attained in marketing and parent engagement in her role at our school! Ava is excited to be a member of Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh and help the school grow.

Leonora Pasay
Accounting ManagerLeonora (or Olea as we know her) graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a Major in Accounting from the University of LCBA (Laguna College of Business and Arts). Originally from the Philippines, Olea now has ten years experience working here in Cambodia in accountancy related roles for manufacturing and non-manufacturing companies. Working here at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh is another part of her life she sees as an opportunity to share knowledge, wisdom and support teachers and work colleagues.

Sanjeewa Prema Kumara
ICT SupervisorSanjeewa, an accomplished technology professional from Colombo, Sri Lanka, brings 15 years of expertise in system management, web design, technical support, graphic design, video editing, and cybersecurity. Trained at Cisco Networking Academy, he delivers innovative, high-quality solutions that strengthen our school’s technological infrastructure and creative initiatives.
His ability to combine technical precision with effective problem-solving supports our school’s mission to maintain a robust and secure digital environment.

Kimlang Pou
Admissions ExecutiveKimlang is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in international relations at Pannasastra University of Cambodia. Before joining Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh, Kimlang experienced working as a client service officer at a standard international school in Phnom Penh for more than a year. She is passionate about working with children and babies and hopes to help deliver one of the best experiences for parents and family in interacting and communicating with the school. In her spare time, she loves to go to cafés and travel.

Chakriya Sombath
HR ManagerChakriya obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of English Literature at Norton University and completed a Pedagogy and Teaching Methodology for General Education course at the National Institute of Education. She has more than nine years of experience working at international schools in Cambodia and has worked in administration and HR for more than six years.

Kanal Ban
Videographer / PhotographerBan Kanal is a Cambodian creative with over 6 years of experience in photography, videography, and graphic design. Since 2018, I’ve worked across a range of industries — from media production and education to event management and ministry. I began my journey as a freelance photographer and videographer, and over the years, I’ve taken on roles that allowed me to grow both creatively and professionally. With a degree in Visual Communication Design and additional studies in English and IT, I bring a balance of artistic vision and practical knowledge to every project. My mission is to elevate Cambodia’s creative scene by combining cultural identity with modern expression.

Darong Chorn
Graphic DesignerDarong is a creative designer with over 5 years of experience in project management, advertising, and computer-aided design. He has a proven track record of transforming client ideas into visually compelling and functional design solutions. Over the years, Darong has collaborated with some of the most prestigious brands in Cambodia, consistently delivering high-impact work that enhances brand identity and audience engagement. Combining a unique blend of creativity, technical expertise, and a passion for visual storytelling, Darong approaches each project with strategic insight and artistic flair.

Lyheang Sath
Admission & Marketing OfficerLyheang holds a TESOL degree from Paññasastra University of Cambodia (PUC). He brings nearly a decade of sales experience from both local and international companies, and previously worked at another international school before joining Shrewsbury Phnom Penh. He is known for his passion for resolving customer issues and his collaborative spirit. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling to experience and explore nature.

ReceptionistKimsour currently pursuing a degree in Accounting at Vanda Accounting Institute of Phnom Penh, Kimsour brings one and a half years of experience as a cashier and receptionist. Carla Howarth
Chair of Advisory Board of Governors and Chair of the International Development CommitteeCarla Howarth became a Shrewsbury School Governor in 2014. She chairs the International Development Committee and is a member of the Nominations & Remuneration Committee. Carla holds a first degree in Law, a Master’s Degree in Criminology and is a qualified barrister. She has worked in the criminal court systems as a Senior Lecturer at the City University of Hong Kong. She has authored practitioner texts in criminal law and is currently the Managing Director of a global training and education consultancy. Carla has a son and a daughter who are both Old Salopians.

Dr. William Wing-Yan Lo
Vice Chair of Advisory Board of GovernorsDr. Lo is a Founding Governor of the Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as a Hong Kong renowned independent school, The ISF Academy. Dr. Lo started his business career at McKinsey & Company and has subsequently held various top management posts at a number of leading organisations such as HK Telecom, Cable & Wireless plc, Citibank, and WPP plc. In 1996, he was selected as a ‘Global Leader for Tomorrow’ by the Davos-based, renowned global organisation, World Economic Forum. In 2000, he was selected as one of the top 25 Asia’s Digital Elites by the Asia Week magazine. He was also a founding member of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong’s Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) Listing Committee. In 1999, Dr. Lo was appointed a Justice of the Peace (JP) of the HKSAR Government for his contribution to the city of Hong Kong. Dr. Lo obtained an MPhil Degree in Molecular Pharmacology and a PhD in Genetic Engineering/Neuroscience, both from Cambridge University, UK. Dr. Lo is also the Chairman of Junior Achievement Hong Kong (JAHK), the Hong Kong Chapter of one of the world’s largest education and youth-serving NGOs.

Dan Morris
Member of the Advisory Board of GovernorsDan was educated at Shrewsbury School and after taking a gap year in Australia, Dan studied at Exeter University and graduated with a BA Combined Honours Degree in Economics and Geography. Dan previously worked for the food supply-chain business in account management roles and is now a director and partner in his family beef farming businesses. He also works part time as an external consultant to the food industry. He is married to Iona with with children, one of whom is a current student at Shrewsbury School. Dan was appointed as Governor to Shrewsbury School in 2021 and is a member of the Audit Committee and the International Development Committee. Dan also finds time to serve as a Shropshire Councillor and is the cabinet member for Highways and Infrastructure, and also vice-chair of the Standards Committee.

Kingsley Lo
Member Advisory Board of GovernorsMr. Kingsley Lo holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of British Columbia. He is the Founder of CSW, a leading planter manufacturing company established in 2005, with production facilities in China and Cambodia. Under his leadership, CSW has become a trusted supplier to major global retailers, including Lowe’s, Walmart, Home Depot, Costco, and Bunnings, serving markets across the US, Europe, and Australia. Mr. Lo brings extensive business leadership and international manufacturing experience to the Board and is committed to contributing to the continued development of this prestigious school and to supporting broader growth and educational advancement within the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Peter Yu
Member Advisory Board of GovernorsPeter is qualified as a certified public accountant in Hong Kong and Australia and works as a finance director for Mr. Samuel Tak Lee at the Lee Family Office. Mr. Lee is a philanthropist who has donated USD 118 million and HKD 73 million to Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Diocesan Boys’ School, respectively. The Lee Family Office holds a sizeable property portfolio in Hong Kong, London and Geneva, currently valued at not less than USD 3.4 billion in total. Peter assisted the Lee Family Office in the acquisition of the Langham Estate in London in 1994 and has monitored a few redevelopment projects over the years. He has been working for the Lee Family Office for over two decades and holds one of senior executive posts. Peter has also served on the badminton sub-committee of Craigengower Cricket Club since 2012.

Teh Chui Hoon
Member of Advisory Board of Governors (Parent Governor)Teh Chui Hoon is delighted to serve as a Parent Governor at SISPP. Having lived and worked across Asia, she values cultural diversity and the importance of building strong, supportive communities. A business owner with more than 20 years of international experience, Chui Hoon has held senior leadership roles in marketing and management, guiding global brands and leading diverse teams. Her expertise in strategic planning, governance, and stakeholder engagement has given her the ability to balance vision with practical execution – skills she hopes to bring to her role on the governing body. As a parent to two Salopians, she is passionate about education not only as a pathway to academic success but also as a foundation for curiosity, resilience, and kindness. She values SISPP’s holistic approach, where children are encouraged to develop both their talents and their character. Chui Hoon enjoys working with fellow governors, the staff, and other families to ensure every child feels supported, inspired, and confident to reach their potential.
